The Upper Clatford village booklet (VB078) is an excellent thirteen page study of this Hampshire village and its parish of All Saints.
Upper Clatford, situated just south of the town of Andover, has a long and interesting history. Read about the Iron Age hill fort used by King Canute as a battle camp in 1016, the villages involvement in the Swing Riots in 1830, and the rise and fall of the canal and railway that once existed here.
The booklet includes a map and is packed with historical information about churches, schools and contiguous parishes. Numerous local surnames including those of landowners, traders, priests, farmers, inn keepers and school masters are also included.
