Chalton Village Booklet
The ancient Hampshire village of Chalton had its origins as a Saxon ‘ridge’ settlement in the C6th. It is situated in rolling downland, and has a windmill standing sentinel over the village. Some of the most interesting village facts lie in the documents of Chalton Manor, and are usefully referenced in this booklet.
Surnames relating to past residents of Chalton proliferate throughout, and a reference to churchyard inscriptions collected and compiled in 1894 points to a little known but extremely useful resource. If you have any connections with this ancient chalk ridge village and wish to learn more about the plethora of names associated with it, then this village booklet will be an invaluable asset.
