* ARCHIVE * HGS / HRO celebration!
On Wednesday 8th December, at Hampshire Record Office in Winchester, Record Office staff and Hampshire Genealogical Society volunteers came together to celebrate their recent partnership.
To kick off the evening, Emma Noyce, Assistant Director – Culture and Information Services [Hampshire County Council]; Caroline Edwards, the previous Chief Archivist at HRO and HGS Chairman, Paul Pinhorne, all gave short speeches. Paul also read out a message from Dr Nick Barratt, HGS’s President, who was unable to be with us on this occasion.
In the Search Room, HRO staff put some original parish records on display along with the associated microfiche copies, online copies and HGS CD versions too. There was also a tithe map and schedule book on view. Upstairs in the cinema, a rolling archive film was playing and, in the Education Room, HGS were displaying some of their historical maps alongside a few most interesting family trees that have been donated over the years.
Being close to Christmas, there was quite a festive atmosphere and enjoyment of an excellent range of canapés and beverages.
