HGS Online Events Team – report
HGS Online Events Team
In recent weeks, a small team of Hampshire Genealogical Society volunteers have attended two online events, both were run as Zoom meetings with break out rooms allowing individual societies to have their own room and answer questions face to face.
The first was the East Surrey Virtual Family History Fair on January 27th where many Family History Societies from around London and the Southeast were present. In the HGS Room the morning was a bit quiet, but we were kept busy in the afternoon. In total we helped seven people and gained one new member for HGS. Overall feedback to East Surrey FHS was positive with many people taking the time to express how much they had enjoyed the show and what they had gained. The date of next year’s event has been set as January 25th, 2025.
On February 24th, the Berkshire Heritage Fair was organised as a joint venture between Berkshire Family History Society and Berkshire Local History Association. The event organisers published a list of expert subjects as varied as Archaeology, Great Western Railway, and the Western Front Association so that visitors knew in which room they could find help. As well as the numerous Local History Societies taking part, HGS was one of five Family History Societies at this event. The HGS team was kept extremely busy in the morning, the afternoon was a little quieter but in all we helped fourteen visitors and heard some interesting family history stories along the way.
The HGS Online Events Team hope to take part in more events like these in the future and would encourage HGS members to attend. They are an excellent opportunity to network with other Family History Societies and to discuss ideas to further your family history research.
